Over the last two months, I’ve written two long-ish articles on healthcare spending for Courtyard’s client newsletter. Might as well link them up here:

  • Tackling the 20%: Getting Serious about Saving: “As budget debates kick off across Canada, many provincial governments are asking: can we meaningfully reduce healthcare spending without harming patient care? Although opposition politicians and interest groups will attack every cut, the evidence suggests there is money to be found by targeting inefficient, ineffective and inappropriate healthcare costs”
  • 2010: The Financial Imperative: “The healthcare sector must face up to fiscal reality: the massive spending increases of the early 2000s are no longer an option for Ontario. By increasing productivity and value for money across the health system, we can both control today’s spending and put healthcare costs on a path toward long-term sustainability”

From the health policy panel at Canada at 150, Stephen Gordon wrote, “I’m not getting much from this panel. I certainly don’t see much that could be turned into policy.” I have tried to do better than that with these articles.
